Privacy Policy
Draft, pending legal review. This page describes how Localee works today and will be finalized before the app launches.
Localee shows you live deals from local businesses near you. This policy explains what we collect to do that, who sees it, and the choices you have. We don't sell your personal information, and we don't run third-party advertising in the app.
What we collect
| Information | Why we use it |
|---|---|
| Account details: email, password (stored only as a one-way hash), and your name if you're a customer | To create and secure your account, and so a business you visit can recognize you as a regular |
| Your location while the app is open, if you allow it | To show deals near you. If deal alerts are on and you're signed in, we also keep the approximate area you last opened the map in (rounded to about half a mile, replaced each time) so we can tell you about new deals nearby. We don't keep a history of where you've been |
| A notification token for your phone, if you allow notifications, and your notification settings | To send the deal alerts, reminders and updates you have turned on |
| Deal activity: deals you claim, freeze and redeem, when, and the amount a business records at checkout | To run claims and redemption codes, enforce monthly limits, and show your money-saved total |
| Referral code and who signed up with it | To credit referral rewards |
| Business details (business accounts): business name, category, street address and map location, plan, staff accounts and their permissions, deals and photos you post | To place the business on the map, publish its deals, and show its insights |
| Payment records: plan, subscription status and invoices | To bill subscriptions. Card numbers are handled by our payment processor, Stripe, and never reach our servers |
| Support messages you send us | To answer you |
| Basic technical data: IP address, device type, app version and error logs | To keep the service secure and fix problems |
The app also asks for your camera (business staff scanning a customer's QR code; images aren't saved) and your photo library (a business choosing a picture for a deal; only the photo you pick is uploaded).
Who can see your information
- Businesses where you redeem a deal can see your name, how many times you've visited, and the totals recorded at their counter. They never see your email address or location.
- Staff accounts a business creates can see what that business's owner allows, such as redeeming codes or viewing insights.
- Service providers who run parts of Localee for us, only as needed: hosting (Render), database and file storage, payments (Stripe), email delivery for things like password reset codes (Resend), push notifications (Expo, which passes them to Apple and Google), map tiles (OpenStreetMap) and app distribution (Apple and Google).
- If the law requires it, or to protect people's safety or Localee's rights.
- If Localee is sold or merges with another company, your information may transfer as part of that deal, under this policy's protections.
We may share totals that don't identify anyone, such as the number of redemptions in a town.
How long we keep it
We keep your information while your account is open. When you delete your account, we remove your name, email, password, referral code, unused claims, savings history, notification tokens and saved area. We keep a record that a redemption happened, with your details removed, so a business's past totals stay accurate. Billing records are kept as long as tax and accounting rules require.
Your choices
- Delete your account any time in the app: Profile (or Setup for business owners) → Delete account. A business owner's deletion also closes the business on Localee and its staff logins.
- Location and camera can be turned off in your phone's settings. The map needs location to show nearby deals.
- Notifications: turn deal alerts or reminders off in the app under Profile (or Setup for business owners) → Notifications, or turn notifications off for Localee in your phone's settings. Turning deal alerts off also deletes the saved area.
- Ask us for a copy of your information, or to correct it, by emailing support@getlocalee.com.
Security
Connections to Localee are encrypted, passwords are hashed, sign-ins expire, and resetting your password signs out your other devices. No system is perfectly secure, so please use a password you don't use elsewhere.
Children
Localee isn't meant for children under 13, and we don't knowingly collect their information. If you believe a child has made an account, contact us and we'll delete it.
Changes
If we change this policy in a meaningful way, we'll update the date above and let you know in the app or by email.
